Reasons for Development:
Those who are responsible for education in the Kingdom, Teachers, parents and students always complained about the excessive number of subjects, abundance of curriculums, repetition in topics, the use of passive teaching methods and rote memorization. The Schools gained the trust and confidence of the Ministry of Education and were granted the project of developing curriculums in 14/09/1420 H. We thank Almighty-Allah that the Ministry of Education has not only approved of this development carried out by Dar Al Fikr Schools but also started the project of developing all curriculums.
1- Objectives of Developing Arabic Syllabuses:
The development Team has intended that the proposed goals of the project are derived from the education policy in Saudi Arabia that has been approved of by the honorable cabinet Act No. 779 on 16-17/09/1389 H.
Goals are as follow:

Setting up a syllabus that accepts integration within the subject.

Entering the new century with a syllabus enhances the individual's self-awareness.

Integrating religious values and life practices.

Facilitating the independence of student's in researching for information.

Strengthening the character and beliefs of the students.

Presenting a coherent skill structure that moves Arabic from knowledge to a perfective skill.

Developing the skills of understanding, absorption analysis and deduction.

Presenting language skills: Listening, speaking, reading and writing in a balanced format

To provide enriching vocabulary that help students to express their thoughts and feelings.

Developing the student's tendency for research and curiosity to carry out the principle of continuous learning.

Training the student to summarize, analyze, construct and taste beauty in texts and interact with the offered texts.

Connecting the student with his own civilization and culture heritage and helping him to act in accordance to its positive sides.

Enabling the student to read the Holy Quran with confidence, absorb its details and understand that it is a miracle.
2: Steps followed by the work team when outlining the syllabus:
1. Analyzing Arabic syllabuses from the Kingdom and other countries that offered their syllabuses for consideration.
2. Putting experience and skills in an order based on the characteristics of the pupils age
3. Preparing skill maps for each grade.
4. Wording of behavior goals of each syllabus in the light of the defined skills.
5. Limiting the number of units required by the grade syllabus and dividing them into two terms.
6. Reducing the field of each study unit and the necessary periods.
7. Distributing the items of grammar, dictation and composition in the units.
3: Study Plan:
The Arabic syllabus consists of 6 units in grades (4, 5, 6) and 8 units in other grades supported by Teacher's guides divided into two terms covering areas of moral education besides some aspects of educational life that are directly related to the student's life.
4: Organization Structure of the Unit:
Each unit includes several texts:
(a) Starting:
A main text chosen carefully to include models suitable for progression in all language activities and exposes the learner to different types of reading sources
(b) Support and Enhancement:
These range from one to three texts and are closely related to the unit area. They have been assigned to enable the student to complete his knowledge and language skills through understanding and achieving its objectives.
(c) Enrichment:
Each unit concludes with an enrichment text. These help students to broaden their knowledge in the same field, to contribute to developing their culture, to enrich their vocabulary and form positive attitudes. The students use the Enrichment texts at home.
The following were considered in the development of the texts:
1. Reading Development: performance skills including listening, reading out loud, silent reading, recitation, elocution and learning by heart.
2. Understanding and Absorption: realizing structure and vocabulary significance and developing the student's vocabulary.
3. Deduction and Analysis: understanding the text in depth through comprehension of the meanings and discovering the relations between them, extracting ideas and analyzing some structures.
4. Criticism and Literary Taste: developing the student's creative thinking skills and acquiring a taste for literature also focusing on language structures suitable for the student's age.
5. Language Application: grammar, dictation, composition skills and research activities.
5: The overall evaluation of units:Each unit is evaluated using a range of tools including homework assignments, research tasks, projects, quizzes, tests and performance skills including listening, recitation and comprehension.
6: Tasks of Educational Development Unit:
The development unit consists of educational supervisors in the schools headed by an educational advisor. This unit's tasks are as follows:
1. Following up the development project adopted by the Schools since 1419/1420H.
2. Putting a plan for developing "sociail studies" in an integrated system.
3. Helping teachers with explanations and supporting programs.
4. To update all subjects on the intranet
5. Guiding teachers and helping them through researches and projects.
6. Proposing, arranging and carrying out the necessary training courses.
7. Providing sources of learning necessary for students. |
